Telescopic dippers / Teledippers extend the dig depth of a standard excavator allowing deeper works to be undertaken.
Typical uses are cassion excavations, access shafts for microtunnelling, utilities and metro construction.
In the past these jobs were done using long reach fronts on standard excavators, or rope operated clamshell grabs on cranes, however both these methods have drawbacks such as speed, precision and organisation of worksite
The principle of excavator mounted telescopic dippers came from Japan in the 1950’s, when deep foundation earthquake proof buildings were being constructed in the post WW2 construction boom.
The designs evolved over the years with several Japanese excavator manufactuers offering them within their product range, Hitachi being the sole remaining.
At First Square, we have been producing telescopic dippers since 2008 and our design draws on feedback from customers who were using the Japanese product and were not happy with certain aspects of it
The unique selling points of our telescopic dippers are :

Clamshell Bucket Options
Standard Duty Clamshell Bucket
Available in various capacities from 500 litre to 3,000 litre, with either mechanical or hydraulic rotate and only in single pin fixing to teledipper, so always hangs vertically
Versions with teeth or just toeplate
Built with a good strong frame and operating mechanisms, but the design is steered towards weight saving where possible on rotator size, scrapers and material thicknesses
This means that the overall bucket capacity can be increased, without increasing the total weight of the bucket and contents
Increased capacity means more material moved per cycle, which means more production per shift
Ideal for re handling of pre dug material in large high productions shafts
Heavy Duty Clamshell Bucket
Also available in a variety of sizes, hydraulic rotate as standard, and designed to be fixed to teledipper in two pin configuration, meaning the clamshell will always be in line with the teledipper, therefore it is possible to work at angles away from the vertical, important if the customer needs to excavate under shaft lining rings
Very large powerful rotator, substantial ejectors/pushers for material retention, and extreme build spec of frame and operating mechanisms
Due to the heavy build of this clamshell, the capacity is reduced, so ideal use is digging of harder virgin ground and excavating under shaft lining rings as already mentioned
A conversion gimble is available, to allow this two pin clamshell to be used in a conventional single pin hanging configuration
Universal Bolt on Bracket
We have brackets to suit all excavators including JCB, Hitachi, Caterpillar, Doosan, Daewoo,
