Telescopic dippers / Teledippers extend the dig depth of a standard excavator allowing deeper works to be undertaken.
Typical uses are cassion excavations, access shafts for microtunnelling, utilities and metro construction.
In the past these jobs were done using long reach fronts on standard excavators, or rope operated clamshell grabs on cranes, however both these methods have drawbacks such as speed, precision and organisation of worksite
The principle of excavator mounted telescopic dippers came from Japan in the 1950’s, when deep foundation earthquake proof buildings were being constructed in the post WW2 construction boom.
The designs evolved over the years with several Japanese excavator manufactuers offering them within their product range, Hitachi being the sole remaining.
At First Square, we have been producing telescopic dippers since 2008 and our design draws on feedback from customers who were using the Japanese product and were not happy with certain aspects of it
